Let's talk about bucket lists
At the start of this year I began documenting my adventures and challenges in a section of my website I named Living In The Weekend section. The idea being that I didn't want to spend my life waiting for the weekend and then wasting it. Instead I decided that this year I would plan fun things to do to make sure that I was living life to the fullest and to show that you can still have a life full of fun and adventure without giving up the day job.
This got me thinking. It's not only important to make the weekends count but, in order to ensure life doesn't pass us by, it's good to think bigger. What are our top priorities and when are we going to make them happen? Que, making a bucket list.
So what's a bucket list and how do you get one? A bucket list is a list of things that you'd like to do before you die, or kick the bucket. It can include anything from something you'd like to see or someone you'd like to meet or somewhere you'd like to go. It's always good to put deadlines on the list too, like a mini list of goals. And how do you get one? You make one. Dream big and write down whatever you think of, that idea that's been swimming around in the back of your mind for a while, write it down.
Here's what I've got so far:
Learn to surf
Climb the Great Wall of China ✅
Swim in the Great Barrier Reef ✅
Explore the Trolltunga trail - planned for June 2017
Climb Mount Kilimanjaro ✅
Be listed in the Legal 500
Run a marathon ✅ - after running the Paris Marathon I realised my dream was actually to run the London Marathon so I added that to my list
Run the London Marathon - planned for April 2017
Run the New York Marathon
Run from London to Brighton unassisted - planning for 2017
Go on an African safari ✅ but really want to go again
Do a bungee jump
Go sky diving
What I would LOVE for you to do is think of something you'd love to do ..... got it .... something that would be a dream come true .... okay, now give it a deadline. Commit to doing just one thing off your big wish list and make it happen. I had dreamt of climbing Kili for years. I'd read every blog going and heard so many people talk about their experiences and one day I booked it. I gave myself a deadline and committed to making it happen and it did. Dream come true.
What's on the top of your list? How many things have you got ticked off? Have you got any ideas of what I should add?
