I am so excited to share that I've been offered a place in the London Marathon!!!! Eeeek.
When I first got the email I was in absolute shock. This was something that I had wanted for so many years. After no less than 7 failed ballot attempts I justified to myself a few weeks ago that now wasn't my time. I've recently started a new job and have a lot of exciting adventures planned and training alongside everything else would be too much. Not getting a place in the ballot was gutting, again, but there would be other years and I filled my mind with other things.
Then I got the email.
My hands were trembling and as I hurried to concoct a reply I was worried they might have given the place to someone else by the time I replied and that it wasn't really happening but after a few emails and the most incredibly exciting telephone call I'm in!
At first I didn't know whether to tell people on social media that I had been given a place. Lots of people are kind and supportive but some people can be mean. I know how incredibly lucky I am to have been offered a place and how coveted each place is. However, I feel like I've done my time, I've applied year after year after year and received that marathon magazine with a big fat "No" on. I was determined to run a marathon and so a few years ago I spurlged my savings and travelled to Paris to run their marathon but although I've got a big shiny medal it didn't tick that box and my dream of running London continued.
Now on 23rd April 2017 it will finally be my time. Over the next 12 weeks I will be doing the training with the rest of the country, I will be at the Expo (arhhhhh tummy flip writing that) and I will be on the start line of the race I watched on the TV every year when I was little when I'd never really been to London before. A HUGE thank you to KIND Snacks for helping my dream come true. I am so grateful that you chose me! I'll do my best to make you proud and I am SO excited about all of the exciting things that we have planned in the run up.
If you're running London this year please comment below with your social media handles so that I can follow your training journey. If you've run London before please feel free to share any advice.
Happy running x
